Title: Re: Finds from Saturday in Carmarthenshire Post by: Meatslicer on April 10, 2011, 11:48:32 PM The big bronzy thing looks like a candlestick but the base is the same size as the top. Maybe a horse bit?
The coin is hard to see, can you post a bigger picture of both sides, might be able to ID it then. Eric Title: Re: Finds from Saturday in Carmarthenshire Post by: Jassy on April 10, 2011, 11:56:43 PM hi Eric, thank you!! im trying to get a close up of the coin but not having much luck!! at the bottom it has a letter E with a blob after it,a dot kinda thing.the E is facing to the right......where the coin is scratched it looks a goldy colour????

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Somebody please tell me this is a late April fools joke :'( :'( :'( Title: Re: Finds from Saturday in Carmarthenshire Post by: Jassy on April 11, 2011, 04:41:38 PM i know im stupid!! curiosity got the better of me!!
Title: Re: Finds from Saturday in Carmarthenshire Post by: Meatslicer on April 11, 2011, 06:29:00 PM PLEASE dont do that again on a folded coin, no matter how curious you are.
There are ways to unfold them that involves heating and cooling and unfolding a bit at a time but leave it for the experts next time. you could have a valuable coin which is now worth less (Worthless). If it is a love token, they are often better left folded. Eric. Gonna go and lay down in a darkened room now to stop the voices. Title: Re: Finds from Saturday in Carmarthenshire Post by: Jassy on April 11, 2011, 06:58:23 PM oh dear learning curve for me, thanks for the advice Eric. so given that its a queen anne was it worth anything when it was folded, it was pretty worn flat ???
Title: Re: Finds from Saturday in Carmarthenshire Post by: Val Beechey on April 11, 2011, 07:00:55 PM Well done all. Some very interesting finds there. Lovely gasket. ::)
Joking apart, you had a good day there. I wont say anything about the 'you know what' I'd have prob. done the same. I think Rog will have to change his name to Brasspotman. He's like a magnet. :o Val Title: Re: Finds from Saturday in Carmarthenshire Post by: Meatslicer on April 11, 2011, 07:01:21 PM Could have been..........sob
It looks like it was deliberately bent, could have been a love token. Eric Title: Re: Finds from Saturday in Carmarthenshire Post by: Val Beechey on April 11, 2011, 07:03:43 PM Forgot to mention the candle stick. It could have been mounted in a stand. I can't see it being a horses bit.
Val Title: Re: Finds from Saturday in Carmarthenshire Post by: Jassy on April 11, 2011, 07:09:04 PM ahh well its done now! i wont be doing that again in a hurry......hang my head in shame... :-\
Thanks for your suggestion Val, it does resemble a candle stick, although each end is slightly rounded so i wont stand up, i suppose it could go into other pieces???? hmmm i wonder |
