The seller says that he's picked up a cut half at 14 inches!  Also has a 15" Wot for sale aswell.

That is a big coil I bet the depth is really good on that.  Can cover more ground too.  And its only £3.20 at the moment! definately worth it

Have you used one before? How good is it?  I was trying to do some research on this coil and would value peoples opinions

I agree with Bob 14"  is one hell of a depth for a cut half. I have an Etrac with a 15 x 12 SEF and would struggle at 4" to pick it up

Thought the etrac would do better than 4 inch on a cut half!  ??? I supose it depends on the soil conditions wet, packed, loose etc I know that with a 15" wot using a sov on wet sand the depth is excellent.

The Etrac can do better with the SEF, the WOT coil or All Terrain 14 n 15" fail IMO, really not impressed with them, I am however well impressed with the SEF range and have the 15", 12" and 8"

I think alot has to do opperator and if he knows how to get the most from his set up. Have you spent much time using a wot coil Rob? Because i have read some good reviews on it. To many people run out and buy the most expensive setup's because of Joan Allens reviews, and don't want to admit that that another setup maybe better because of how much they have been ripped off for!

50 odd hammereds with the SEF range over the last couple of years, the WOT coil just isnt as stable and doesnt pin point or locate as good as the SEF coils, I dont go by Joan Allen reviews I go by my own experience and finds and if you have to choose between a wot and an SEF i would deffinatly suggest the SEF over the wot ;)

Here is some of those I found using my SE and SEF Coils or ETrac and SEF Coil I am a no0b on here but a mod on the sister site Detecting Scotland

I spent years using the wot coil and changed to the SEF when they came out, I can honestly say that the SEF is more stable and so can be run at a higher sensitivity. The WOT is still a great coil if you can get a reasonably priced one. Remember that the laws of physics apply when using any VLF machine, which means that the larger the coil the greater the power (i.e. depth) but less sensitivity (target size) as a result.

Surely tho Rob if it's not stable maybe you had the sens to high, as for pin pointing that takes experience with some coils.  ;)

Solas I don't pinpoint at all and I run as high as I can regarding sens, I know my machines inside out, I hit the target and I know where it is im digging ;) i'm just saying the WOT's pinpointing is nowhere near as good as the SEF :P

Chef is right re depth v target size

I know experienced detectorists who still use older setups, but know how to get the best from them and would give any of the more expensive detectors a run for there money. Besides it don't matter if you run the highest sensitivity or have the largest most expensive coil you still need to walk over the target.

Too true mate, if you dont walk over it you have no chance of finding it :P

Some really nice finds there Rob as you say you have to walk over it but i have never found  a cut half with my etrac and 15 x 12 SEF and as i said i would be lucky to pick one up at 4" in soil maybe something wrong with my machine as i am just being realistic and honest. I have found 13 Hammered in last year  but no cut halfs and i do detect oin wales think we were all poor here

To be fair mate I have more success with the 12" x 10" SEF but the 15" x 12" SEF is awesome for getting the really deep ones that the 12" has missed, you do have to go super slow and listen for those tiny almost iffy grunts for the deep ones or cut halfs etc

Someone told me that 12x10 sef was the better one. I have been looking out for one second hand on ebay but you might as well buy a new at the prices on ebay and have a years warranty with it

12" x 10" is for sure my main coil and has been now for about 3 years, give it a try mate but really listen for those tiny signals that most people would avoid or miss, they tend to be the cut halfs, quarters etc etc

I know my machine well ;) will show you what I can mate, most people are stuck in their ways and dont want shown anything new with their machines so i tend not so say anything, would rather not offend anyone than give advice that might not be taken well but yeah I can show you what I do and my settings and tricks etc and let you see the difference with the SEF's etc no problem
