Title: Re: Todays finds Post by: Meatslicer on May 05, 2011, 11:15:49 PM If its bronze, clean gently with warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush if you dont have an ultrasonic bath to hand.
If its more recent brass, it will still be fragile but the surface should be smoother, again clean with soapy water and a toothbrush. Dont scrub too hard and dry often so you know when to stop! Once the muck and dirt is off, try to photograph with some strong light shone across it, then use a digital camera to zoom in and photograph with a flash. Best to include a known sized coin to give an idea of scale. Although the back may look flat and featureless, patterns or makers marks can show up if you photograph in the way mentioned above. Eric |
