Title: anyone wanna make some easy easy money ??????
Post by: Mike on August 08, 2011, 04:17:34 PM
for charity that is :D :D :D

at the next rally and all future rallies how about putting all your scrap copper bronze lead into a bucket instead of the nearest hedge , between us all we could collect a serious ammont of money all for a good cause or 2 we could even empty our rubbish buckets from home , you know the 1 at the back of the shed that gets forgotten about , never gets emptied out and just sits there wasted , come on lads & ladies why not help someone in need and it wont cost you a shilling .

Good idea Mike , as long as people are happy to bin their scrap in your bucket , you can be DW's official Scrappy. All proceeds to go to Charity. As you are doing the leg work I'm sure the members will not mind you choosing the Charity.

The idea of collecting scrap metals for charity comes up periodically. I'm afraid it's not a practical idea. Both with the legalities - waste transportation license etc., and the general hassle involved.

The advice to everyone attending DW rallies is for all participants to take their rubbish home. Generally, though, the practice of 'hedging' pieces of scrap found whilst metal detecting is intended to be beneficial to the farmer. It moves items that might damage farm machinery or injure livestock from the fields where they can cause damage to the hedges where they can't.

The idea that this practice could be thought of as 'littering' and that detectorists might be prosecuted for it is quite laughable.

Whilst in a perfect world dectectorists would take home all the rubbish they find whilst out detecting, hedging scrap iron is still, in my view, good for the farmer.

I believe we have one of two farmers amongst our membership. Perhaps they would like to give an opinion.

Geoff

If I think about it then it's hedge - if I don't then it's home and then bin   :o

as an owner of a building company i have the relevant paperwork , for waste transportation etc , public and civil liability insurance etc etc so thats got that covered

as for hassle what hassle im volunteering to put a bucket in a feild collect the scrap , take it away , weigh it in get a reciept from the scrap man  and give the money to a worthy cause , all i ask ANYONE to do is drop their bits and bobs of copper brass or lead into it job done !!!!!!!

its not rocket science and will as another member posted IMPROVE THE IMAGE OF METAL DETECTING, now that cant be a bad thing can it .

MIKE.

I removed the previous thread as I am fed up of threads getting Hijacked by people with a chip on their shoulder with the Administration on here.

Its easy to sit back and criticise - not so easy to get of ones behind and actually organise things. I've already given my backing to Mike the Fob, so has Neil and so has Geoff (Proconsul). What Geoff was stating was that as an organisation Detecting Wales cannot remove waste, for charity or otherwise and as such could not get involved in the idea. It is against the law full stop.

As Mike the fob has offered to take responsibility and use his own business waste carriage license we have been able to circumnavigate this problem and for this we thank Mike. Its a very kind gesture and will be appreciated by all of DW and in turn the Charity Mike chooses.
