Title: FINDS FROM NEW FIELD
Post by: Val Beechey on August 08, 2011, 07:33:04 PM
Some of the odds I found this afternoon.
The one on the left is a button with a dark red glass insert with lettering on it. Sadley broken so can't make out complete words.
The one at the bottom is almost certainly Silver Roman numerals V111 mounted on Gold Leaf (?) mount. It seems to be an insert.
The one at the top is an el cheapo gilded broach minus the middle and back. (I think)
This seems to be a more promising field than the one with all the washers. Here's hoping ::).

Has anyone got any idea what the button and number insert might be.

Just out of curiosity, before I threw it out, I had another look at the remains of the crudy broach. Guess what, it's SILVER. Praps it wasn't so cheap after all. Shamee it was in such boggy ground.

Surprised no one has any ideas about the silver Roman numerals insert. Come on Guys, don't dissapoint. I thought you knew everything. ::)

val.....im thinking the roman numerals button could possibly be from ww2 period and king george 8th.  not sure if its forces or more home front e.g. police??

will have a look into it for you as ww2 is my thing  :)

Now thats interesting. I hadn't thought about Edward. ::)

It's only part of something though and I don't spose I'll ever know what. Still, no matter how small and unimportant, I found gold and silver in one outing. Wow. ;D
Thanks for the lead hoods74

I'd think the Roman numeral button is military, V111 referring to the regiment. Have recently disposed of my military collectors refernce books on eBay, thought I wouldn't need them again, someone must know the regiment.

Hi Win
Thanks for your reply. It's not actually a button. Well I don't think it is. BUT it could have been.
As you can see there is no back to it and it seems to be far too fancy for Military. The Numerals are Silver and the disk is covered in gold front and back.
My best guess is that it was part of some Edward V111 memorabilia item. Guess I'll never know.

I showed it to the Farmer today and left it with him to show his Wife. He was just as interested as me.
