Title: brooches today
Post by: celticspikey on March 23, 2012, 09:36:48 PM
Hi all, Decided to try my luck today on one of my medieval fields ,situated in a sleepy wiltshire village. I have been detecting this field a few years now and finds range from a few roman to predominately medieval ,black soil, lots of pot, just what we like ! no hammered turned up this time just usual buckles, cartridges, lead and a few Georgian worn coins, then up popped the first brooch a lovely celtic La T'ene wessex type ,3 rd to 4 th century BC.followed by  this beautifully Saxon saucer brooch dated 6Th century . field was in stubble soon to be ploughed cant wait.
