Title: Are you a wannabe archaeologist?
Post by: Bob on May 07, 2009, 10:02:50 AM
If the Indiana Jones side of you needs to be let out and aired this summer then The Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeologist Trust may have the solution for you. This year, from June 29th to July 17th they require volunteers for a dig at Oystermouth Castle, Mumbles, Swansea. They will be excavating outside the west tower, searching for the outer wall and ditch and also exploring the knoll area. Volunteers have to be over eighteen to take part. Now I'm just guessing but I imagine they would allow detecting of the spoil heaps as it only makes sense to do so, however, I don't think you would be allowed to keep any finds.

If you are interested then either ring the trust on: 01792-655208 or email: digoystermouth@ggat.org.uk

Finally, fedoras, whips and crooked grins are obligatory :)

I would be suprised if they would let you detect at all - many years ago myself, Tyna and Tony Maz were invited to go on a dig organised by the National Museum Wales, but we would have only been allowed to pinpoint the target and stick a flag in the ground - not even dig it up ourselves.  Worth asking though, for anyone on the forum who can go.
