Title: new 5p Post by: jondav on November 18, 2012, 08:32:34 PM Anybody tried an in air test of the 2012 5p coin? it now falls in the rusty iron range of targets,they,ve changed the metal its made of,presumably the 10p and 20p are now the same.Steel most prob,now I hear you say so what,we dont want those "pocket money" coins anyway.Well personally when I go down the beach,I like to dig up all and every coin ,regardless,furthermore the 1 and 2 pound coins will probably go down the same road shortly,what then, when I tried my minelab on the 5p ,it would,nt so much as give a tiny squeak,unless you take the ferrous number down to zero. Its not all bad news however, when I tried the same coin on my other,more basic machine,in the shape of the Lazer scout,it gave a cracking signal. good on Tesoro/ lazer.

Pulse machines for coins on the beach soon I think.
Title: Re: new 5p Post by: topcat on December 07, 2012, 09:47:49 PM The beaches i have been searching in west Wales are full of 5p coins and they give a very low signal on my e trac also £1 coins give very odd signal and all are very black and covered in crud i have found about £150 on 2 beaches and some silver gold and platinum so just have to keep going back , today was very cold and windy but it was better than being stuck indoors .

It doesn' even have to be underground to get badly corroded - I still pick up pennies and the like from pavements if I see them, but the 'new' ones are almost not bothering with. - wasn't there a call recently to try and get the 1p and 2p obsoleted?
