Title: 925 solid silver monkey
Post by: Dale on December 15, 2012, 10:04:02 PM
Hi all, I found this last year in local playing fields, the oldest coin I have ever found there is victorian so I don't think its older than that. I tried over and over again to research it but never  got anywhere really. it's a strange one as it doesn't stand up and it doesn't look as if anything has snaped off it, chain loops ect. The only thing I can think of is a charm???  But there must be more than one.Any help would be great thanks

It may be from India I don't know but the victorians did use the hallmark 925 alot. iv looked at so many but can't find a match at all.

I'd say it's fairly modern and more than likely british .
This 925 mark was first used in 1973 before that
as far back as 1904 the silver mark was .925 in an oval
[ note the decimal point in front of the 9 ] .
i.e. 92.5 parts silver 7.5 parts usually copper.
I'm sure I remember having one of these monkeys on a keyring

It is a nice find I only dug 4 holes that day as it was pi**ing down, I had to run back to the car twice to get out of it, but it was worth it in the end :)   Id just like to know where it came from, I don't think il ever know ???

Hi Dale,
I think I've solved what and how about your monkey but where and who can't tell without Hall Marks.

It's a Pendant and it hung from a loop through it's up stretched hand. Similar here, top left. (If link works)

Cheers Val, I think il settle with that good shout, both arms are streached up to take the loop, it don't feel as if anything has snapped of but it must have. Cheers for your time ;)
