Title: Neeeeeeiiiiillll ! Found some buckles today
Post by: hedgehog on May 13, 2009, 08:30:06 PM
Had these all turn up in the same area, they are an interesting lot, fancy giving us the low down on all of them?

The other bits came up too don't know what the big tinned copper alloy thing is either, cap badge from?
Also a little pot leg, and a lead token.
Only went out for a couple of hours this evening to try out the vacant field, don't usually turn up buckles like this they are few and far between normally !

Nice finds Hedgehog.

Number 3 buckle is definately circa 1600-1650 copper alloy double looped with ovoid knops on each corner - a lovely buckle and would shout late hammered coins being in the area.

Number 1 is my favourite though and is considerably earlier - I have seen it somewhere just trying to rack my brain in which reference book it is. Its got an age to it. More later when I find the right book. Reminds me of an archers ring, but its not. ;D

Lovely buckles

Neil

Nice finds. First one is a strap clasp, a bit like this but without the "face" design:

Second is the spacer from a medieval strap end, like this:

Thanks for the i.d.'s Neil , Digga, Peter (nice links), and Al.
Just the cap badge and the tinned object to go. The tinned object is closed at the narrow knop and hollow and open at the large knop.
P.S. The field is called horse pastures , it use to be 13 small fields and is now just 1!

I think the badge is of the King's Own Royal Regiment, see here:
