Post by: longdog on April 26, 2013, 08:41:54 PM
Out with Merriman88 in the roman field this evening and found this, not sure what it is, maybe a token but isnt made of lead. ID would be most welcome thanks. Nice piece of silver for me this time too.

nice bit of silver, well done. Is the small bronze single sided? It's "similar" to a Bronze stater of the Durotriges ??? What part of the country are you?

I've just texted him so online soon hopefully. Saw it quickly a couple of days ago. As Lee says it didn't seem to be leaden but would like a second look now lol.

Your probably right Paul though copper alloy "tallies" are quite unusual. the concave shape, though classic isn't a necessity. The dots do look a little regular and the location, if found in Herefordshire, could be a little too far north for a Bronze version but the reverse would be the clincher.
Here's a pick of a bronze stater................

Well we cleaned it up a bit Geoff & Spikey and both agree that it is a leaden token, the colouration was down to soil on the surface, nice token though :)
