Title: A few hours in the sun Post by: Chef Geoff on August 26, 2013, 03:43:39 PM Popped out again for a three hour stroll around my one and only field, it doesn't give much but it gives ;)
I was only a couple of yards in to the field when this badly worn but always welcome Charles II rose farthing showed up, I know it's copper but it's a hammy in my book :D (http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv294/Chef_02/P1010101.jpg) I was relieved the other day to be corrected by The Doc, that my Roman seal box was in fact a much rarer medieval mirror case. I wasn't relieved by it being rarer but in it being medieval as this fitted into my jigsaw puzzle of how this field "works". But back to square one as there's no mistaking this :( A Follis of Constantine, so there goes my theories again, however it's a super condition (pic doesn't do it justice) and is marked as scarce so I'm not complaining ;) (http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv294/Chef_02/P1010103.jpg) I've posted a few times before on the disproportionate amount of counterfeit coins I seem to find in this area, Roman, hammered and milled, well today was no different with what "would have" been a George III bullhead sixpence. >:( (http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv294/Chef_02/P1010106.jpg) And apart from a few coppers and buckles that was about it. There is so many counterfeit George III shillings, sixpences out there im starting to think the mint made them ??? counterfeits seem to be a more common find than the silver ones, all the ones I find are fake......... Ray certainly did better than me. 2 mile walk with the dogs and I dived for cover.
