Title: Treasures Of Britain On Last night!
Post by: Spooyt Vane on November 01, 2013, 02:41:49 PM
I disagree that the three lions mount was lost by Edward 1st on a forage to Scotland ,because he never went anywhere near Kirkcudbright..But Lord Stanley who changed sides at Boswell Field and put Henry 7th  into power ,did go to Kirkcudbright and burnt the town to the ground in revenge for a attack on Isle of Man..(he was King and Lord of man)...When the houses of York and Lancashire were united after Boswell 1485 they probably fought the Scots under English three lions banner and one of stanleys retainer knights lost this mount ...not longshanks...but what do i know  ::) ::) :)

You're probably right Rob. I thought they were very quick to jump to their conclusion.

Has anyone noticed how they avoid using the dreaded word "METAL DETECTOR"  -the program probably wouldn't exist without  this magic machine  and our efforts!!!

Yes I noticed that too, the omission of any mention of a detector !
I wonder why?
Only vic reeves was seen with one..... But he's funny so that's okay.

Title: Yet Again That Subject Of Dowsing !Does It Really Work?
Post by: Spooyt Vane on November 09, 2013, 04:38:02 PM
I was sceptical that dowsing for metal objects could work and still am..But a few ago i joined a dowsing course at a local college and there was two classes with forty students...We started of looking for a hidden crystal in the classroom with homemade dowsing rods.(out of metal coat hangers) and after a couple of weeks all forty students could find the crystal..Amazing...What was more amazing was the experiment i set up for the map dowsing I was allowed bring copies of an O.S. MAP where I located a  many years ago a medieval coin hoard..With all detail removed ,apart from field boundaries..The teacher got the original with all the detail on..While the students were doing the map dowsing ,a woman behind me said she had finished ,but had two xs in same field..I nearly fell of my seat when i realised she had exact find spot ,but also the original x from the OS MAP...Maybe she was tuned into my thoughts ,but 5 others had exact find spot and 6 were close out of forty.,..That was totally amazing if it was by chance ..There would be alot more spot the ball winners if it was by chance... :)Can You shift this post please i dont know what happened ....THANK YOU

Nice find Dale. That's a job for a pro. conservator. Just think what they could make of it.

Yes, that is a nice find. Like Val says it could do with conserving. Not necessarily a pro though as there are detectorists who can do almost as good a job. I am not bad but I have my limitations. But I have seen what some others can do.
