Title: What will our Grandkids find ??
Post by: 150aceboy on February 05, 2014, 08:23:51 PM
As the state of which modern coinage is coming out of the ground, absolute tat, corroded, rusted etc  >:(.

What will our grandchildren be digging up in the future  ??? ???

This thought came to me recently, as i found a couple of clad coins, only a year or two old, date and bust just visible, some just blank discs.

Whats your thoughts   :-\ :-\

I was thinking about the fact they would only find pound coins and the like - and lots of green waste.

However, given what is still being pulled out the ground, I should imagine they will still be finding the sort of things we do, although maybe not in the same sort of quantities.

they will have far superior machines with 3D so will find all the hoards we missed ,1000s of them

looking at the changes in electronics and software over the last say 40 years and massive changes over the next 40 years boy will they have some detectors by 2050 ,with a supercomputer on board ,thats if XP are still going then  :o

very little would be my answer,,since detecting started technology hasn't changed much and I doubt it will over the coming years and even if it did ,does anybody seriously want to dig 2 foot holes all the time because the latest must have machine tells em there might be something at that depth?

ground penetrating radar will be achievable by then with 3d graphics display .the big boxes you see today with GPR will be condensed to micro size.in fact the Germans have a GPR already on a chip .

this is what you will be using 2o years hence

Unfortunately GPR will never be of any use as a metal detector as to achieve the level of sensitivity required to detect a coin it would also detect every other item in the soil too, a little like trying to spot a piece of confetti in a snow storm ;)

your looking at the situation with todays eyes and not for the future.
if you spoke to a workmate back in 1980 just 34 years ago and told him that in 2014 people would have a phone in their pocket with which they could phone anyone around the world and send and receive photos they would certify you as mad.
back then we were watching a TV with a CRT and valves because the digital electronics industry had barely begun .
now they're no longer around and its all plasma screens and smartphones with maps and video and cameras.
the gadgets we take for granted now hadn't been conceived or invented back in 1980 just 34 years ago.
no wifi ,no GPS , no internet ,no bluetooth ,no smartphones ,no 3D CAD design systems ,no 3D printing ,no blackberry PI,no ipads,  and the pace on innovation is accelerating so who knows what will come in the future .its reckoned that smartphones in 20 years time will have the computing  power of todays supercomputers and nobody knows what else will become the norm in another 34 years time of ongoing technical innovation .

Oh I agree there may be new things that we can't even dream of at the present time but if so it won't then be GPR system, all the systems we have today have a base line that's determined by some "law" of physics and therefore has it's limitations. The main stumbling block for advancement in detector technology has always been the fact that it's a micro hobby and there is not enough money to be made to put the investment in to research :-\

Leaving the science to the people who sound like they know what there talking about ......... all i can say is as long as there are humans walking the earth then who knows what our grandkids and bloodlines will be finding ?

Hopefully a lot less ring pulls and foil than me !!!!    ;D

Trouble is, these days they make too many things biodegradable :P, even the bloody coinage  :-\
