Title: Early Roman Brooches.
Post by: celticspikey on February 20, 2014, 07:57:18 PM
Had a day on some stubble on  a roman site, a few grots came to light and a grotty silver wash and two brooches in the shape of a Hod hill (1st c) and a little disc brooch (2nd c). A pleasant day with a good soaking early on ::) dried out eventually ;D ;D ;D

Well I'm glad you posted your picies Paul.  They are the things we know we might find.

The others are the stuff of dreams.

I do like roman disc brooches :)

The silver washed coin is probably a fouree - the reverse looks like [PRINCIPI] IVVENT - or principle youth, so it's one of the 3rd century caesars (most likely).
