Title: Help with ID please.
Post by: herbie on June 19, 2014, 06:46:40 PM
Not a detecting find...

Marcus Aurelius AS(?), reverse Salus feeding snake rising from altar (?).

12.4g, 26mm.

Have been trawling the net, but am struggling finding this reverse with bare headed bust.

Any help with ID would be much appreciated, cheers.

What's the weight and size of it?

It is Marcus Aurelius.

I woudn't be too worried about finding an exact match online - there are many common coins that aren't on wildwinds for instance. It's possible it might be in Sear's Roman Coins and Their Values, but he seems to spend too much space on gold and not enough on silver and copper.

Additionally looking in Roman Imperial Coinage would help - I don't have those as I concentrate on the silver coins myself.

Amen to that.
