Difficult to be certain - looks a bit crude in places. Maybe a forger's trial strike?

That's a good shout Peter ;) I was looking at the dies edges there very ragged and quite small, it will be interesting to see what it makes.

My only comment (apart from the fact I've got a couple of items like that from experiments with plaster of paris / hammers :) ), is that it doesn't have any white lead oxidation, which I would expect from an lead item from the time - even lead buried for a few years gets covered in it.

Maybe it isn't lead, or has been cleaned very vigorously!

i wonder if its a fake or not,have to wait and see what price it goes for,very interesting.
