Title: Horse brasses ?
Post by: artkat on February 29, 2016, 10:35:47 AM
 Hi folks
Have pulled a few of these from a field with history being ploughed. Been told they may be horse brasses. Can anyone confirm this.
Thanks in advance
Adrian

Yep, they certainly are. You'll end up finding loads of them. Ones with initials, names or the farm are particularly worth hanging on to or returning to the farmer.

Cheers
Neil

In the main the smooth, round or oval ones are makers plates.  They are attached to horse harness.
Horse brasses are decorative pendants attached to harness. Shire horses are still adorned in them and can be seen at many County shows.
