Post by: TJ on February 05, 2017, 08:28:33 PM
Found this , it is 9 inches long and one inch thick.
Hole in one end and it tapers into a spike at the other end.
Havnt got a clue what it is .
Anyone have a clue as to what it is.

If it's iron it looks very much like part of a gate fixing with the pointed end driven into the wooden post. Sorry if this is disappointing.

Thank you Ian , and no it is not disappointing . I enjoy finding anything and everything that i have not seen before. A farmer friend has also said it was a gate post hinge . Thanks anyway .

definitely a gate hinge....I remember driving these in to posts back in 1970 !!!!, probably not changed much for hundreds of years, the local blacksmith would make them up for pennies
