When around old ruins look for concentration of pottery/glass fragments, (usually in a corner or a short distance away from the building) on the surface, if after removing the top vegetation theres more, good chance you have found the old dump .Dont be suprised to find they go down a couple of foot. Depending on length of habitation and number of occupants. If modern refuse collection did not exist imagine how much non bio-degradable rubbish the average family would amass....a lot.. sizes dont know what happend to the thou, the attic was full of boxes full of bottles. Nine times out of ten the plough has smashed them though! still I like the excitement of try to extract them and praying the bottom is still there.

Afer asking permission of cause. There was loads of twisted neck bottles and the ones with the glass stopper just laying around on the surface all in whole condition. Most of them had a birmingham makers mark Very strange i thought on the way back to my car saw the Warden i seen earlier, i showed him what id found, he said they was Bottles left by the Laborers who built the Dam Im not sure if that true but i couldnt think any other way they would have got there |
