Title: Hi There
Post by: Junkman on July 28, 2009, 04:26:34 PM
Evening all

Joined the forum when it first started but must confess, like any new forum it was quiet to begin with so sort of forgot about it until this week and now I see it is a decent well visited and active forum.

Not been out much this year for various reasons but keen to get out the trusty machines T2-R1-Trident 2 and blow the cobwebs off them.

Cheers.
Maybe if I get posting on here a bit more it may get my enthusiasm back to get out there and find nothing as usual.

I specialise in finding nothing from many periods of history. It's like my very own dark ages.

Welcome back Junkman! As you said the site is pretty lively now with numerous posts appearing daily. Have a look at the some of the finds we find on our members only rallies. Its in the Detecting wales Rally reports section in Forums.

cheers
Neil

Interesting. The forum looks like a mini club in its own right. Are the Rallies regualr with forum members paying for the dig and meeting up?. I'm just outside Abergavenny so would like to meet up with some other members for a dig if possible.

We don't use the word club Junkman as it tends to upset some of the more formal members of certain local detecting clubs. We are more like a group of friendly detectorists with a common interest - I like to think so anyway.

All members are welcome to attend our Rallies - I think we have held 7 to date. We have one this Sunday, but I am afraid its full at 70 spaces, with a waiting list for vacancies, but I can add you to the waiting list if you like? The cost is £5 for a days detecting in Wales and £6 when we go pilaging over the bridge! ;D

The land for all our Rallies is kindly donated by members of detectingwales.com. So far four members have donated land for rallies which is excellent news and we have a few more waiting in the wings for the Autumn time.

Keep checking the forum for regular Rally news - as a rule once it is announced it fills up within 2 days to the maximum of 70.

All the best

Neil

Cheers Guys. Seem like a decent bunch 8)

The T2 is my favoured machine but the others have thier uses and sometimes when out, I lend a machine to others new to the hobby or those that just want to try something else.

2009 has been a shite year for detecting for me for various reasons and I need to relight my detecting fire again.

Been to a fair few ralies over the years but enjoy the social as much as the detecting. Have a good library of finds identification books ( about 15 I think) which come in handy. Even if there is no detecting for me, I might pop along to one of the forum digs just to meet some people and see what you've found perhaps. Always interesting seeing what people pull up. So if anyone wants a spade carrier for a few hours, I don't mind tagging along if that's OK with some people.

Perhaps someone wants to try one of my machines and they can use it and i'll show them the ropes of how to get the best from it?

Perhaps if I see people getting some nice finds it will rekindle that detecting fire again.

The more i see, the more I like this Forum. I suppose the problem for me was I was one of the first members and there was no one else on here at the time. Bit like an empty pub.

Looks like it has filled out though and has plenty of punters.
