Title: This years hammies so far this year!
Post by: hedgehog on August 26, 2009, 12:19:08 PM
Neil asked me to post up hammy finds from this year in the hope that inspires some to get out there and find more; I hope this pic has that effect.

Finding the hammies.

Don’t give up is the best I can say, I am lucky that I have the time to get out there, when I go to a field it may take 5-6 visits before I start finding anything that I am interested in, there IS something in every field you have just got to persevere until you find it.
Mostly go out for 4 hour stints or 2x2 hours eventually ending up finding something, sometimes I wander, but the majority of the time I just cover the field until the hammies give up hiding.

Of all the hammies in the pic the majority of them would have been from just under the surface to 4 inches down, keep your discrimination to the minimum, you will find the occasional piece of iron, dig all “iffy” signals, hammies don’t have to be very deep before nulling out. Do not discriminate anything out, if you get a big signal close to the surface don’t ignore it, it may be a hammy. If you have a display meter and it shows as a ringpull, dig it, they have the same signature as a hammy.

If you are digging up tiny bits of lead, expect to find a hammy soon, good luck!

Thats a lot of hammies Hedgehog and certainley nice to see, I have the minelab safari, I dont discriminate at all, I have it in the all metal ferrous mode as it seems better for me, Have tried all metal conductivity mode wich I saw on video on one of the threads posted but still prefer ferrous mode so I should have a chance of possibly hammie or roman, there is supposed to be a small settlement in one of the fields I am waiting to get on and have been around a field next to it, but no hint as of yet so will need to get on the field and see what pops up, it had been done 15years ago so maybe the goodies may have gone will have to wait and see... ;D Dave

Good luck with the field Dave, just think about how far forward detectors have progressed over the last 15 years & I reckon you're in with a good chance!
Let us know how you get on.

Steve, great finds those but I think the one with the horse on is the best  ;) I've still not found one  :'(

Well done Steve great selection, you certainly are inspiring, but at the moment I'm not being able to get out much,so it is also quite depressing (Just joking) ;D,just goes to proof if you put the effort in you'll get the rewards.
