Title: minelab soverign elite -meter help!!! whats is it doing? is it broken?
Post by: kaister on September 28, 2009, 07:43:25 PM
Hi i just bought a used soverign elite to use on the beach and it has a id meter which was a optional extra. it says i have to calibrate it by waiving a coin over the head and turning the dial to the nearest multiple of five, easliy done. The problem is in the book it says a american doller should read 50 but my meter when calibrated is at 345 or 350 and coins regiter in the high 400's iron comes up as -1000 or less. The detector seems to work fine but i cant get my head around the meter. has anyone got one?/ had expierence with one? is it broken?

It has a standard 10" tornado coil.

any experise would be welcome

Sorry cant help with the meter Kaister, but you can use the machine with out it,in fact a lot of people would say your better to use the audio id signals than the meter display,i used the Sovereign Elite a few years a go never had the meter and found the audio signals were clear enough to tell if it was a good or bad signal,I'm sure someone will be able to give you info on the meter. :)

Hi Kaister. Never used one of these but my mate 'willow tree' has a sov with a meter on. Drop him a PM and I'm sure he'll put you right if he can.

hi your not far wrong in what your doing it s made for the american market so british coins will give different readings, here s what to do set detector to manual mode turn disc 1and 2 to 0 put meter line to three quaters clockwise try a pound coin try and get a reading for about 530 or to the nearest of that number you will find that trash will be about 1050 ,copper 470 silver 515, gold about 570,dreaded aluminium 430,hammered 215,now it s tuned in to british coins and metals hope this helps let me know how you get on  ;)

I use a meter on my minelad sovereign ... the setup advised is to adjust your meter using a £1.00 coin to have a reading of 500.

If you get a "- " readout it is probably ferrous which can also be noticed with the nulling of the audio,

Hope this helps.

You might find the numbers jump about a bit on the beach as well, this is what Minelab told me can happen sometimes,  i never really bothered with the meter just listened to the tones instead.

Steve.
