Title: Detecting Wales Rallies.
Post by: StumbledUpon on March 03, 2009, 08:05:24 AM
Following on from the commercial rallies thread I feel that new members joining just to attend forum rallies should be charged more, £5 for regular forum posters and £10 for members that only use the site to attend forum rallies, If these members have nothing to talk about, then money talks! Also I noticed that a few members that joined just for the last rally did not even post a thank you to the organiser, this is very rude! Obviously these members are quite thick skinned so asking for a little extra surely would'nt offend! These are my thoughts.  :)

good point about charging £10 to non poster's but some people just dont post their known as lurker's and i'm one of those on other forum's as i like to read post's and look at the find's but if your not in the clique your ignored. a couple of people have put their names down for the next rally that have not visited this site since they put their names down for the last one. they dont visit or post but their names are down on the list. what's the answer - i dont think there is a fair way to sort it out as in all walk's of life you've got giver's and taker's.  mike

i have never been a big poster on any forum that i am a member on, however if I was one that qualified to pay the extra I would'nt have a problem with it.
I think it is a good idea because it gives those members that genuinely don't post for what ever reason an opportunity to contribute to the forum in a different way. :)

A suggestion would be charge the extra for all members with 'newbie' on their forum status, I think this would be a fair way of applying the extra fee, as the forum format will dictate who pays what, I think this would make everyone happy.  8)

We not frightened to post, I am sure their are naturally shy people on this forum, should we discrimate against them
with a extra charge on Welsh rallies. I know there users & abusers. I dont know what the answer is.

mary and maxine both make good point's. i to think it's unfair that someone who's quiet or shy should be penalised for it. at least their visiting the forum regularly my own posting numbers are only over 100 due to that stupid addictive woody pecker thread otherwise i'd be on 20 post's.  mike

I feel what Maxine says about the forum format is quite fair. If the charges were introduced from the third or fourth rally then everyone would have the opportunity or otherwise to contribute to the forum even if it is just to say "lovely find"
The charges need only to be a token of say £2.50 extra until the "newbies" become jnr members etc.

I dont think the issue here is about those that have posted 20 , 30, 40, 50, times. Its the ones that have posted 0 , or even 1....ie "yes please i'd like to come" . New people may well not feel confident enough to ask questions , or contribute to ongoing discussions. Maybe they could make a start by welcoming other new forum members, just a "Hi welcome to the forum" would suffice. A friendly forum will encourage more new members which will in turn increase the knowledge bank that will help these new detectorists and heighten their enjoyment of a fantastic hobby. Lets not forget here , this is not a commercialy run forum its mantained by a couple of guys using their own time, the rallys are a thankyou for supporting the forum.

May I say its friendly and its well run forum.  It nice to see the ladies Maxine & Mary put up good posts because on
other  forums ladies are put of by the childish antics of a few males. :) :)

it's a prickly subject..could be taken as discrimination..but i think a surcharge for non contributing members is fair....maybe it will  encourage people to post and join in the fun !...byron

Your Right there Byron its a very prickly subject.

Do we make,  a would be very active forum member Pay more and let someone who once posted actively months ago and now nothing........... Pay less ?

The forum has 200+ members at the moment and only roughly 30 of them are active but there will be 50+ forum members at the rally .

I don't know of any forum that has 200+ members posting on a daily basis.
What's the answer ??? Search me !

I think it boils down to the fact that, can Geoff,Neil and field finders handle the possible numbers of people that could attent in the future.
its really all in admins hands.

Surely its not the quantity of posts its the quality.
That woody woodpecker thread as made Newbies into full members over night.
On the other hand ive used my Knowledge, intelligence and wit to get me to hero member ! lol
Do we really want 200+ People spouting rubbish on our brilliant forum just to have the chance to attend a rally ?

Regards
Phil jones

I hope its not going to get too political on here its a good site and its thriving lets keep it that way!If it get too much it will drive people away and it was that reason that i left my last club.I think too many people with silly ideas can ruin something good, after all not everybody can afford to pay extra fees for rallies and not everybody is outspoken when it comes to posting replys on here so lets not victimise those people and keep it friendly and welcoming otherwise you could lose more than you gain. :) ;)

What do mean spooyting rubbish  :) :) But seriously forums have only 10/20
regular posties. Even on the big forums. :) I dont know what the answer is
maybe a poll of members to find out why they dont post.

I know one thing and what others think or not is their opinion.  I love the Detecting Wales site, there are a few guys that post some good stuff and everybody seems honest and come up with some good threads. Having missed the first rally due to family business i am so looking forward to Caerleon and putting some faces to names and whatever the outcome of peoples opinions on new members I just hope the site lives on til i,m gone as it,s filled a big gap in my day. Local like minded people,  male or female, young and old, together for a rally in Wales and just down the road as well. Gotta be a good thing.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

if member's think it's ok to register just to attend rally's fine by me. just dont start moaning when we can only get 50acres of land and 60-70 people turn up. 20 of which dont log back on until the next rally.  it's happening already a couple of people have signed up for this rally but not logged on since the last one.  mike

some people are genuinely not computer literate and are not able to post with the ease most of us experience...maybe we can encourage them to participate therefore making them valuable members..i am trying to get a mate to post something so's he'll have more numbers to his name not just be another forum member....byron
