The book calsp is in stunning condition - not sure where to start dating it. Is it hinged? I think you may be right about the bronze age chisle - I'll have a look in my reference books for you. Well done - great post Neil Title: Re: Another good day out! Post by: falcon. on March 17, 2010, 10:09:56 PM Hi neil yes it is hinged open and shuts freely :)
Title: Re: Another good day out! Post by: Neil on March 17, 2010, 10:26:12 PM Even better if its moving freely.
I think this is quite a good match for your Bronze Age Tanged Chisel - its missing a bit of the stem that would have been counter sunk into wooden handle - but you get the idea. Neil Title: Re: Another good day out! Post by: Roman (Ray) on March 17, 2010, 10:59:26 PM welldone on today boys.

Title: Re: Another good day out! Post by: falcon. on March 17, 2010, 11:21:52 PM I don,t think its that old the metal is thin pressed ;)

lovely finds. ray/ Title: Re: Another good day out! Post by: waltonbasinman on March 18, 2010, 10:15:10 AM Very nice ID Neil. It is indeed a Tanged and Lugged Chisel with some of the stem missing. It is of a Style called the Broadward complex metalwork after the place this style of metalwork was first recognised, Broadward near Leintwardine in Herefordshire. Well done on the find. The mystery object I think is Bronze Age as well but I am racking my brains to remember where I have seen one before. It may be worth contacting the Searcher or Treasure Hunting magazines for a positive ID. Or try the UKFD. Well done though, Dream finds for me.
