Title: Strange detecting collections . . .
Post by: Neil on November 28, 2010, 01:56:59 PM
I posted a while ago about my odd interest in "Jerry can caps" that I seem to frequently find while detecting.

Well thanks to two of DW's members I have added a few more. Cheers to Kev and a mystery person who left one with TaffLaff for me.

A strange thing to collect, but it all stems from one of them being the first item I ever found many moons ago.

Anyone else got any odd detecting finds collections?

Cheers
Neil

One of our long standing club members (RARE) used to collect horse shoes.
She had so many in fact she weighed them in and donated the monies to the club.

I had a collection of nice ones too Neil, well untill one day my best ones  A /.A.   R. A.C. ect. ect  mysteriously vanished  when i went out  when i had them weathering out the back for a few days before taking  a pic, i should have washed them myself instead of letting the rain ect do it, didn't want to overdo it though.  i think i know where they walked to though,

My collection of half crowns is still growing. Havent found any all silver ones yet but have seven post 1937 ones now. All from a site excavated in the 40 and 50's in Llantwit major, where I was expecting to find roman stuff. I think I must have found the site where the archaeologists set up camp while digging it. How much beer could you get for a half crown in 1950?

I have also had to stop keeping iron buckles coz I filled two large plastic pots with them. All of them are complete and roughly the same size and design so could have been from a dropped batch or all used for the same thing on a piece of land next to a disused farm.

Nice to see others collect unusual yet useless items.

Eric
