Title: Todays silver
Post by: benny on February 27, 2011, 08:38:15 PM
Spent hours today trudging round with mud stuck to my search head, spade, gloves and about a stone of the stuff stuck to each boot and dodging hailstones wondering why the hell I was still there detectingwhen this little un popped out.
It's 15mm diameter and I need help to ID it please!
Also had a buckle just wondering if its the same sort of age as the coin?

Nice finds. The buckle is as Humfrey said, 1620-1680. The hammered is a lot earlier, 15th century I think. The pics are not very clear, any chance of some better focused ones?

Tried to get some more pics in daylight and fiddled with the brightness and contrast to see if it makes it any easier for IDing.
Quite worn and a lot of the lettering is clipped or mis-struck off but any info would be appreciated!

well benny,we know its a archbishop issue and correct me if im wrong guys but i believe these coins were minted for a limited time,so that should narrow it down a bit.

Hi benny - the photos don't really show any more detail - the main problem is they're not in focus. What camera are you using?

It's a Fuji Finepix A800,quite a few years old now!

I just looked up the camera specs, and you should be able to get better focus on macro than that as long as you're not nearer to the coin than about 10 cms.

Think it's the age of the camera, used to focus better. Time for a new camera I think!

Hi Benny - nice finds - I believe the coin is a hammered penny of Edward 1V ( second reign , (1471-83 )  purely because of the design of the centre 'long cross' they did'nt have these fancy centre scrolls in Edward l period.
