Had a long e-mail out of the blue yesterday which I just read after work now. The pictured copper coin/token has been identified as a Mallaca Tin coin dated AD 1511- 1641. Having just spent 15 minutes looking at known examples of said coins I find this a little puzzling as these look a much cruder type of coin. One it is not Tin it is 100% copper and two looks nothing like any example in the photo,s I have viewed of this type of coin. Most people that see this coin / token spot the classic ship and castle Bristol crest on the one side. As you guess I am a bit miffed. Any experts on this coinage read this forum as It may be the right diagnosis but just does not seem right.

Definitely not tin as you say, but Malacca was a Portuguese colony which gave me a clue that led to this. It appears to be a Portuguese copper ceitil. Try Google Images search for 'ceitil' and you'll see plenty. This one looks similar:

Hard luck Paul, you might as well chuck it away mate, it's not from Bristol after all Grin
