An inquest to determine whether Roman coins found near the spot where the Frome Hoard was discovered are treasure is due to take place later.

Metal detectorist Dave Crisp, from Wiltshire, found the 11 Roman Siliquae coins on 1 March this year.

The inquest is due to take place at Wells Town Hall.

In April last year, Mr Crisp discovered 52,503 Roman coins - dating from the 3rd Century AD - buried near Frome.

That haul was declared as treasure, at an inquest in July last year.

The Frome Hoard is believed to be the largest ever collection of Roman coins found in Britain in a single container.

It went on display at the Museum of Somerset in September.

Mr Crisp had earlier found a hoard of 60 silver coins in the same field before he discovered the larger pot of coins.

That find was also declared treasure.
The Frome Hoard is said to be the largest collection of Roman coins found in Britain in a single container
