On the beaches I do ,iron is not the problem,it,s aluminium, loads of it,I,m not talking just pull rings, but bits of it in all shapes and sizes, from pea size to lumps as big as your fist. Trouble with this is they read all over the screen on my minelab, and can mimic the fe co numbers of coins perfectly.Pity some manufacturer cant come up with a way to discriminate out this pesky metal totally  P.S suppose I could collect it as scrap, but as it.s so light you,d need a bin bag full just to make up a quids worth

I know exactly what you mean about the dreaded 'ALI'  There's one beach in particular by me that is infested with it.  It amazes me how many different readings you can get off it and how strong the signals are.
I found a realy good American site for beach detecting and it says at the end  'Remember for every 100 signals you dig, one will be a ring'   by that reckoning I should have found more rings than Mike (Badger). They obviously don't have as much Ali on American beaches. Praps I should invite them over here to try ours. Roll Eyes

Know how you feel, worked the explorer2 for a while and now working a whites DFX300 both have the same problem. Experience is the answer, but one good thing is that the farmer loves us as we are progressively ploughing his field for free. Anyone got a spare truss?Huh Cry

I wonder where this aluminium comes from you get some on my local beach that's been subjected to heat i.e lumps that have been molten.  Huh

I think mostly it's bits of broken up drinks cans. That would account for why I find the tops and bottoms. Roll Eyes
Bear in mind though that in the not too distant past one of the worlds biggest Aluminium factories was on the Gower.
It's quite possible that some of the waste is still rolling around the coast and getting washed up with the tides, much the same as the sand does. Where ever, it's a B nuisance. As Mike said some of it gives the same signal as rings and you just can't ignore it. I've found with the Safari that the gold coloured ones give the best signals. I wonder why.
