Just a few bits from yesterdays 2 hours in one of my local fields. Only managed to get half way along the hedge line by the lane but enjoyed the Sun, signals and background sounds of the cars zooming past. What a busy lane, not my usual peace and quiet.
Came to the conclusion that half the drivers in Pembrokeshire use it and throw their drinks cans over the hedge as they go past. Was so bleeping busy I wondered if my detector was going hay-wire. Still, I managed a few interesting bits, surprisingly some modern coins and the smallest bit of silver (tested and stinky).
One for Bob and Cherry, my turn guys. Wink  and an interesting bit of lead, bottom of pici.
Calling on experts here, is it a bullet ?  if yes any idea on who what and where ?
Showed the horse and rider to a friend last night and he said, very appropriate as it was near to the old race course !!!!!  WHAT RACE COURSE Huh? Shocked  I hadn't heard about this one before. Now I've got another mission, Find the Race Course and find out who owns the land. Think I know but must investigate. Wink

Nothing to shout about really. I was pleased with the tiny bit of silver, at least I know if there's anything interesting out there I do stand a chance off finding it.

I was most interested in knowing if that piece of lead at the bottom is a bullet. Anyone know ??

I like the horse and rider Val. I love finding lead soldiers and toys etc, but unfortunately most of them come out minus a leg and an arm or two. I once found just a head with a busby on, off of a toy soldier. Shame it isn't a roman horse and rider brooch.

Sorry Val I did miss this one.
Answer is, yes it's a round from a Martini Henry rifle (think Rorke's Drift) roughly used between 1871 - 1900 though it was still being used by the Royal Flying Corp in the first part of WW1. Wink

Thanks Geoff, knew you'd know.  I thought it was but couldn't find any like it on internet.  Now the question is , what was someone doing firing one of them in a field at Saundersfoot.  I suspect, from the squashed end, that it hit something, or someone  Shocked Shocked

Nice, I like finding things like that.

Val

p.s. way your going we'll have to make an appointment to speak to you. Cheesy
