Another beach

been looking through old Victorian pics of this spot  for A while now and decided to have A couple of hrs there as the tide uncovered A decent spot worth A look its not As popular beach now as it was in years gone by but had A good session ended up with  some kind of clock could see the cogs but no glass it was brass but was covered in old crusty iron so I left it on the rocks these are the coins I had before I clean them total x6

Did you see the program that was on BBC a few nights ago about Barry Island. They showed a lot of old movie footage that showed the crowds that visited in the Hols. Back then most of British Industry (Yes we did have a lot) closed down for 2 weeks and everyone went to the Sea Side at the same time. I think it was because of this the Hols were staggered. Car Trade and then Industry, so it lasted 4 weeks.
It was stupendous. Thousands of holiday makers pouring in off the trains and coaches. I used to think Blackpool was the busiest place but Barry took a bit of beating.
I don't spose there were any metal detectors around then. But I think this is where most of our older coins come from. They keep washing up.

Yes I have to admit I remember as a child sitting on a VERY crowded Barry beach during "factory fortnight" with chips and tea, you even used to get the tea in a galvanised teapot and real cups....on the beach! I can't see that ever happening again, they would all be stolen
Mind you it's not that long ago that you bought your evening paper by throwing money in an honesty box and just taking one...

I'm just glad that you don't get so many floaters at Barry now as you used to - although I still don't think I'd want to go into the water there!

I remember in the late 60's going on the annual Splott Labour Club outing from Cardiff. They used to go in a flleet of buses and it would always be mayhem on arrival. The beach was so packed that kids were always getting lost. You always heard announcements on the tannoy giving a description of kids and what they were wearing so they could be reunited with their parents. We always had to take note of the numbers on the steps so we could find our way back to our little group on the beach. Good times then and great memories.

yep same here the local club outing to barry a fleet of double deckers , all the dads went on the p'@@ and bookies and the mams and kids to the beach or fair , great days out they where too
