no problem alan its this very coin that got me back in to metal detecting with my son wanting a new hobby i found it in a box in the loft and had been in it since the day i found it back in 1976 that great hot summer Cheesy

p.s A little story to finish at the start of that year 1976 my parents purchased a new house. That xmas i had asked for a metal detector which santa left xmas morning,on boxing day the lady who my parents bought the house from came to see if we had settled in and collect a few things in passing she said if your in the garden at the side of the house keep your eyes peeled as my gardener had found some Gold coins as quick as my legs could carry me i was out side with my new c scope bfo no gold coins found but that john wilkinson token was the second signal. That summer my mother was walking acros the field and in a lump of soil she found a george half sovereign we never did find any more but how many did the gardener find? as the lady said keep your eyes peeled.

A superb read of Iron mad Wilkinson and his copper penny. I am still puzzled as to why he used Iohn and not John in the inscription. At first, knowing that there is no J in the welsh language, I thought that he was welsh! Maybe he just wanted it to look clasical?

Have a look at John Wilkinson on Wikipedia, the section on Family life and death. It gives you an insight into the power the man had. Also I read somewhere that on the 10th anniversary of his death, people turned up in 1000s at the factory gate expecting to see the boss appear, such was the power he had over people.
