XP Deus

« on: October 03, 2016, 06:49:47 PM »

I went to check out my best roman permission on Friday evening and was pleased to see it rolled flat and seeded for winter barley.  I put in about 7 hours over the weekend and found about 30 roman coins including two denari.
Interestingly I started on my favourite T2SE and it was slow going so switched over to the XP Deus on Gary's hot settings with Sensitivity on 95 and started banging out the coins.  Owning both machines I'm learning that the T2 is better/deeper on pasture and grass crops but the Deus is better on ploughed and stubble. The higher frequency Deus seems to detect the deeper small bronzes when the T2SE just sees them as iron.  The field is so mineralised/iron infested that no coin can get detected below 3", even on flat damp soil, that includes my friend minelab CTX3030.
Pick of the bunch was a really nice Allectus quinarius with a galley on it, colchester mint, quite rare.

T2 SE

Well done Rob. Excellent finds. Lovely to see good condition Roman coins.  I found one Roman minim on the weekend as was chuffed!   I also agree with you on the comparison of T2 SE and the Deus.  I have found same results over pasture and plough.  T2 SE for the deep pasture stuff and the Deus on the plough.  Both excellent machines.

A nice spread of finds there - from the Domitian denarius with the retrograde legend through 3rd century radiates (I see a Divo Claudio for instance, and Gallic empire coins), to earlier 4th century (A licinius) - and some later ones, and there's two Allectus rather than just the one!
