That article did seem more focused on Nighthawkers though , for once not branding all Metal Detectorist the same.

Oxford Archaeology's survey was basically a very vague questionnaire, would be nice to see them back-up their figures and facts with published evidence, this survey will become the basis for legislating all detecting, although they will start with the phantom criminals, they will try and restrict or ban us all if they can.

i think ultimately only a ban will satisfy them in the end .It seems they have a bit of a chip on their shoulder they dont like unqalified pesants finding things when they think they exclusive rights on all the past

I was working in hereford on a constrution project that needed an archaelogist there while we were digging the foundations.
He was scraping away at some iron ore, finding some pottery and the like.
While i was checking the level of the dig i noticed the ground was a bit soft, scraped the soil away and found some bones that looked like ribs and gave him a shout. Over he came and looked at them and we both uncovered a bit more. Found a leg, hoof and a head of a horse all in their correct places of the skelleton realised then what i found could there be other items around it i thought.
Looked at the archaelogist and asked him what he thought and he looked around worriedly to see if anyone else seen it form the office and said cover it up and say nothing and that was that now its covered in concrete.
nothing like that makes it to the papers, prob have been sacked if i did.
