If ypu really want to see what the God of Mudlarking finds on the Thames finds, have a look at his site. I once spent 4 hours trawling through the finds pages. Amazing discoveries, and the condition of the finds is breathtaking! Its due to the lack of oxygen in the mud stopping the corrosion. the chap does it pretty much for a living.

Anyone think of anywhere near Cardiff Docks that maybe similar?

Digga I wouldn't say it was possible to find Roman goodies in the mud of the River Usk, I would say it was highly probable especially around Caerleon  Smiley

Where would you begin tho' ?

The Usk would be a fantastic river to mudlark in,its just all that highly dangerous grey mud on its banks.I knew an old chap once who said he got down on the riverbank in Newport when he was younger and found loads of old coins, etc just by walking around.I don`t know how he got down there, I`ve looked at it loads of times, and the only way would be boat at low tide,or absail off one of the bridges!
