Hi All, Remember i'm new to all this, But my interest and enthusiasm is strong in this one!! After doing some fast math i assume that i don't have to spend £1500.00 per month travelling from rally to rally to pursue my chosen hobby. So, how, Or in what fashion does everyone follow their detecting interests on a more affordable level? Do you have favourite local haunts or maybe more formal arrangements with farmers etc? Help me out, I've had my detector 5 weeks now and it's getting decidedly dusty!!
Thanks for any help you may give me.

What are do you live , you could buddy up with someone local , as we do , and go out to local farms to get permission to use their land, don't forget to get an agreement signed, you can download these of most detecting sites

Hi mate, good advice off Mike, i was in the same boat mate, then i joined the DW site and found a detecting butty, living local, LoveDoc, he too was new to this hobby, got on like a house on fire.
So the same as Mike have said, ask on the site for anybody local, and pal up with them mate, with two of you, there is more confidence when asking for permision off farmers etc.and the company is great mate, best thing i did , got a real good detecting mate now, Cheesy.

Hallo mate....where do you live ? A good tip ive picked up mate is to look for any public footpaths through farm land and then going to see the farmer to ask if he minds if i have " a little go with my detecter along the footpath"..... , its a great way of introducing yourself to the farmer and he may even show an interest. Afterwards though make sure you return to the farmer with anything you find and show him...... then ask about his fields mate, worked for me fella  Wink

Dont be put off if ya cant get a detecting buddy mate..... WE are all ya buddies on here fella so keep at it mate and get some pics of ya finds for us  Grin Grin  Wink

Got to  agree with the others fella,  Get yourself a detecting partner, and get yourself a farm to go on. You'll enjoy the hobby much more and learn quicker.

I agree with the above

And i feel you get a lot more out of the hobbie if you join a  local club.

Membership doesnt cost an arm or a leg compared to other hobbies and you get to meet other local Detectorist .
The social Side of detecting for me is very important

Good luck with your new Pastime ;0)

all the best
