I'm probably miles out but the Obverse (or reverse) does look like the Bristol emblem with the ship and castle. Wondering if it could have anything to do with the early Merchant Venturers. I shall keep looking, but it is a lovely find Paul

Thankyou Chef and me being a Bristol City fan as well I should have thought of that as the crest of the football club is very similar. I think you may be on to something my good man.
