Fisher F75 User. Some Men are Wise, Some Otherwise!

« on: November 06, 2010, 07:13:18 PM »

It`s a good hours drive from mine to Somerset so an early start is essential to make the most of the day, especially as i can only get out at weekends.
Got to the farm, which is watched over by Glastonbury `Tor` in the distance, by 8am with the early morning mist still in the air. Very atmospheric & just added to the expectations of what the day ahead might bring.
A quick word with the farmer to confirm available land & off i went to the 1st field. This was a turnip field which i suppose in hindsight was the `wrong side` of the farm as it  was the furthest from the nearest village & church, but as it was ploughed i thought its got to be worth a bash.
I must of started searching by 8:30am & by 11:30 had only had the usual unrecognisable coppers, a few buttons & buckles & what i now know was a Clog Clasp. So a little disheartened i walked back to the farmhouse where i had left the car to re-think my strategy, down a sarnie & coffee.
The farmers 3 young lads come over to ask "What you found mister" & after showing the odds & ends i give them the 1951 two shilling bit i`d also found & off they rushed, happy as pigs in ****  Cheesy
I finished off my refreshments & walked through the open-ended barn to the rear of the farm. I could see a stubble field that was 3 fields away in the distance, so strolled across the two pasture fields, detecting as i went (as you do)
with no signals of any significance, eventually arriving at the Maize stubble.
As i entered through the gate, the `Tor` was over to the left & a medieval church could be seen over to the right.
The stubble was hard going to say the least, the Fisher F75 is very light & tended to bounce off any stubs i hit so i had to follow the rows up & down, not the easiest detecting technique  Undecided but i was immediately rewarded when the 1st digable signal was a Henry V11 groat. As you can imagine, this grabbed my attension & my swing immediately slowed & my ears were finely tuned. Next followed a couple of buttons amongst the dross & then `Bing-Bing` !
Yes another hammy, another Henry, but this time a Henry V111  Shocked
A few other bits & bobs followed, & then i had my 2nd thimble, but this one being a lot earlier than the last, a nice condition `Bee-hive` dated to 13/14th C.
Time was getting on & i know that a lot say it, but i honestly was "just on my way back to the car" & was approaching the gate when i got a cracking 2way signal, & out popped my 3rd of the day. Unfortunately bent in half, really tempted to try & straighten it. I think it`s an Eddy penny !

............ & yes, i will be returning soon  Wink

Fantastic day Mickey, are you making a weekend of it? If so, good luck tomorrow.

The Henry VIII portrait is simply stunning, what a great coin.

Well dug  Grin
