Here's an interesting one; a small strip of silver that cleaned up to reveal the flattened rim of a silver thimble. Anyone know of any practice where the rim would be removed? or found similar? I'm thinking maybe a pauper's or play ring made from a worn thimble Huh

Thats amazing when you think about it. You found it when it was buried but couldn't when it was on the surface. What are you like Al. (Shouldn't say too much. I lost a horse shoe and couldn't find that  Shocked )

Very pretty bit of silver Techony. Would be interesting to know what the initials stood for. Nice find. Grin

I know it's a long shot and we'll never really know but just wondering if the rim has been removed to make the thimble (conical) a better fit for a smaller finger i.e. a child.
I have found quite a few child's thimbles over the years and it always brings it home that child labour within the farming community was until recently and in some circumstances still is the norm.
