anyone detect in water ?

I have been meaning to try detecting in streams and rivers for a long time but never plucked up the courage to dip £100 worth of coil in the water despite waterproof claims.
Has anyone tried detecting in water ?  what sucess did you have ?

My next upgrade will be to the Garrett AT Pro which is supposed to be waterproof to 10foot ! although  I have read that the control boxes have occasionally  leaked on these.

Would you be confident enough to drop your AT Pro in the water ?  bearing in mind that it cost best part of £600    not sure I would.
These American Civil War hunters have no qualms about putting their detectors under water or letting them float whilst retrieving items.

I have had mixed results with shallow water hunting, some very good, usually around fords and at other times I have found absolutely nothing. So yes with the right research it can be very fruitful and the finds are usually in stunning condition.
The AT Pro while being a very capable machine is a middle of the road machine and if your not going to utilise the waterproof capability then I would save yourself £200 and buy something cheaper.
Its great PLUS is the waterproofing aspect and it's this you pay for, It's the same with the Minelab Excalibur, OK I know this is a proper diving piece of kit but it is only a Sovereign without the ability to change coils and you will pay almost double the price of a Sov for the underwater aspect.
So get your waders on, find that old ford and good hunting. And if it leaks then demand your money back as that's what it's made for.

had good results with my old head hunter pulse machine.all controls in earphones so only the coil and shaft to get wet
