Keeper of the Lights

« on: July 21, 2013, 09:41:38 PM »

I didn't go out until 7'o clock this evening, so I decided to detect a local woodland,
which I have permission on, walking along a footpath I detected a part normaly boggy
but because of the weather it's dried out. I had a cracking signal,  dug down about a foot
and pulled out a rusty old tin, I went through the spoil and among plastic cotten reels, rusty badges etc I pulled out 27 coins. most of them are badly corroded but there are some pre decimal, modern coppers, and even some foreign coins , A silver 3d, a canadian 10 cents
and one coin from republique Gabonaise ? three brooches, and an old toy car not bad for an hours detecting,

Ah yes, gabonaise. From Gabon in Africa. Went to a village to see my mate marry his wife from a small village there many years ago. Funny place as they speak a lot of French there, some VERY rough areas.

Nice little haul from a quick hour.

Interesting finds. Me thinks that there must be a good story in there, somewhere.

like it, reminds me of when i was about 7 {many many years ago Sad} when i had some coins in a tin and the old man was laying some turf in the garden, before he put the turf down i dug a hole and stuck the box under where he was turfing, its probably still there now.

You did have an interesting outing, well done.

Can you see a makers name on the Butterfly brooch. It reminds me of something I saw with similar enamelling.

Thanks Val, no nothing on the back of this one,the enameling seems to be plastic lol
I think you're right there Chris there's a story behind this ,it's  probably as you say Carling
some kind of time box buried some years back, as it had a couple of diaries buried with it,
unfortunately well rotted and unreadable. Going back for a second look later to see if I missed anything

unusual find. It's a great shame that the diaries didn't survive. I wonder what stories they would have revealed. One can only wonder!
