Copper rings

I keep finding copper rings of various sizes. They are plain bands very much like wedding bands but copper. They all have a join in them and some have marks stamped inside them. One of the ones I found had 3 maltese crosses stamped inside the band.

Im away from home so don't have any pictures, any ideas? I did consider that they were pipe olives but the profile is very flat and there is no bevelled edge, they all have obvious age to them.

They could well be wedding rings gold is a relatively modern luxury to the general populace with a great many Victorian wedding rings being only gold plated which in the soil quickly comes away leaving us only the copper ring to find

Thanks Chef, they do look more like rings than olives. Any ideas as to why they have a joint? cheaper to produce?

Yes I would think cost would be the reason though it's possible they only came in certain sizes and were altered to order and the copper has probably corroded faster that the solder and so shows up easier
