Nice question MB, been thinking of either a E trac as back up, or a VX3I. I will be able to use my spare coils with the VX, but I think I may be having a minelab moment.
Would like the chance to detect with someone right up on the E trac as I could compare depth and performance on different areas like pasture and plough. I know the E is up there on beach work, but I get bored quickly on beach work.
There are a load of custom programmes for the DFX MB, all readily available from Whites. There are even a few on here in the forum menu. If you want the programme I use your more than welcome buddy.

They're as chalk and cheese so you can't really compare them, the Etrac is FBS so better on the beach, not as sensitive to overhead power lines, no reaction to coke and will find more "dodgy" targets. The DFX is better balanced, sharper on silver and faster recovery.
Alun I would never recommend buying a backup machine that's a stable mate of your main machine as they would share the same negative points whereas if you choose a different system you maximise your chance of covering all bases. Wink

Thinking the same way Geoff, I am way happy with the DFX , but I think I will be opening up my options towards the end of the year. Not necessarily moving on, but adding to experience.
