Out with a mate on grassland a few weeks ago ,when the batteries in the my Deus coil head went flat and with no back up machine(poor show on my behalf). We decided to carry on taking turns with my mates E.trac and i noticed his swing speed was far to quick to register all the information taken in by the machine..When i took over i showed him to go at a slower pace and he started making more finds. It was a very useful day out for him and learning abit more about his machine..People in the past have told me in the past that their best finds are either the start of day or the end of the day ..I think that was down to slower swing speed..Rob Smiley

i totally agree rob i tend to get carried away when nothings being found.then you find something interesting, you slow right down and then you start to find what you were missing.

I think that applies to the minelabs especially, but you can swing the Deus too slowly. Horses for courses comes to mind !

An excellent observation Rob and I admit it's not one that I had made although I like others have regularly suffered the either early or late finds phenomena and what you say does make good sense, thinking myself in to a field for a moment I can even imagine how I speed up when, as Nonker has said, things get quiet.......Top post Wink

True but you can still swing too fast and remember although the Deus has got fantastic recovery speed it's not instant and just because you cant hear it nulling due to the lack of threshold doesn't mean it isn't doing it so in heavily iron contaminated areas you still need to slow down Wink

I find a good slow sweep works best as it's not ground walking .finds things .. It's sifting through it with the detector like its ur hands lol
