this was found about a meter from the william iii hammered and my charles ii coin .first thought was drawer pull but on inspection it looks too fragile and thin.
my husband said maybe an apothcary spoon ? or maybe something else.
it was found within 200m of a 13th century castle at a spot i researched as being the most likely place that the townsfolk would have gathered water and washed their clothes but the field has been used since 10th century or earlier. There are no buildings around the field.

It looks very much like a keyhole scutcheon to me Chantal. I found a very similar one recently.
