I made this one from a 1948 Half Crown today, it has a very low (if any) Silver content so it was a lot tougher to shape!

I just have to polish it up now to get all the lines out...

Cheers Stig, only 3 so far as I'm trying to get them just right.

If I can do a really nice one then I may try a Gold Sovereign!

What I am after is a way to make them with the legend on the outside, I know it can be done but I'm not sure of how to do it  Cry

Kris well done mate.Me and my engineering friends made loads of these years ago but I've never seen one with the legend on the outside, if you do find a way to do it let me know......I'd be very interested to know how you did it. Smiley Smiley.

Very impressive Burp!

If your going to make one out of a sovereign then I would suggest buying a scarred/marked one on fleabay. Doesn't make any sense to risk a good condition one.

The other option and it would certainly make a different coin is to buy a gold ten franc or twenty franc. I have bought one of these on ebay before and they are a bit less than the sovereign in price, and a bit lighter, but nice coins all the same.

I'd love to see the end result. I am sure there may even be a market for them. If it comes out good let me know and maybe my mother could sell them for you via her jewellery stall. She can have a go at selling the silver ones for you anyway if you like.
cheers

Very impressive Kris, I wonder if you use a higher % silver coin whether the way to get the legend on the outer edge would be to cut through the band, reform it with the legend showing on the outside edge then silver solder the brake, and polish it well enough to hide the join, just a thought  Huh.
