At our club a few months ago a lady called Kate gave members a fasinating talk and demo using spindle whorls
Did you now that when you find a spindle whorl it was most likely discarded by a lady as they only used them  spinning the yarn
See here some of the best ones I have found
always nice to find but difficult to date

Nice collection there mate! And did you know the spindleberry bush got its name because the branches were used for making the spindles? Found a few whorls myself but never any decorated ones.

Very nice to find patterned spindle whorls - nearly all the ones I have found are plain.  It is interesting to find quite an assortment of sizes too - and as you say glynkid - difficult to date.  I tend to assume they are around the time of the general coins, buttons and buckles found in the same area - George III most often.
