Phil,
Before you format try restoring Windows to a previous date, say two or three weeks in the past. Then run HouseCall and it could just work unless your restore files are infected too.

but everytime i tried it a security pop-up came up to block it  Sad
Thats been the case with everything ive tried on this tread.

Well ive learnt my lesson  I,ll have to get a good antivirus program now
You know what your taking about can you suggest a good one Bob Huh

Hi Phil,

Seems like a bad dose you have there then Sad   Perhaps the safest thing would be a format and re-install, which will be a bind as you can't copy and use any files you have on the pc now in case you carry the virus over onto the new install in them. I'd suggest going to your local library with an empty USB stick, find all the drivers you need for your system on-line there and download onto the usb for later as you'll find it hard to do that when you just have the basic windows drivers running the laptop. You might not be able to get on the net, se your screen properly etc without the specific drivers for your system.

I use:

http://www.winpatrol.com/

Winpatrol (free version) which monitors you system for changes. Can be a pain when you install something new or update but it warns if something weird is going on and gives you a chance to block it.

AVG 9 Free

http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?part=dl-10044820&subj=dl&tag=button&cdlPid=11014801  (This has always been pretty good at stopping viruses)

Superantispyware

http://www.superantispyware.com/  Malaware and spyware (key logging etc) sometimes doesn't get spot by virus checkers so you'll need something to watch out for them. This is what I use (again free Smiley I'm a cheapskate!

Don't forget that all these will have to be downloaded onto a clean system, they might not go onto a usb as they sometimes recognise what they are downloaded onto and only install to that drive. But as long as you don't web browse once you've reinstalled until putting these on you should be safe enough.

Best
Bob

PS  Don't try and re-install windows over your existing install, the virus will probably hide itself in there too. It will have to be a complete format to make sure it has gone. And if you have a partitioned drive with other files in then I guess they will have to go too. Even if you have saved stuff to cds or usb there is a chance that they are infected if made since you contracted the virus. You'll have to be very careful it doesn't get loaded back on. Check everything!

Further to this thread, I,ve had some idiot hack into my system and all my contacts
are now getting e-mails from me trying to sell them Viagra. One of them up to now
has received over 70. Can anyone suggest what I can do about this. By the way,
I never open any message from anyone I don,t know, so how the hell they got into
my e-mails has me baffled. Yours hopefully, Digger

Year ago now i won an item on ebay.
I paid via Paypal and waited for my item to arrive
After 100s of emails to the seller i lost my rag and sent a very abusive email, im not nornally like that but i hate anyone ripping the urine out of me.
Next day i tried to get online but i was blocked,i phoned AOL and i was told ive been blocked from using AOL because i  sending bulk spam.
Apparantly if you send 1,000s of  mails at once you get automaticly blocked.
Ive never had that problem before or since so i can only think the robbling young lady who took my money had a hand in it

HI Digger, they could have come in on a link you clicked on somewhere too,

again with you, you'd have to get a good spyware and Antivirus running to get rid of the trojans / viruses,
there is a few above, or you could look up some more on www.download.com
under security software
