back out into the old faithful field again,at first i thought the ring was a just an olive thingy for plumbing, but there is some kind of hallmark on it,bit confused as its in bad condition ...any ideas?Huh
faye found a nice badge, looking into age on it ,but it reads pavillion franco britannique.
also the usual couple of coins, the oldest one being 1700's.
not a bad afternoon.

Nice detecting there both.
Could the ring be silver ?? didn't think gold got encrusted. Can't see the hall marks so wouldn't say for sure.

Interesting finds Jassy. I think the ring is brass and was probably originally gold or silver-plated, with a fake hallmark to fool the unsuspecting. I believe in Victorian times these were also supplied by pawnbrokers to repace the real thing pawned by the wearer.

The badge is a bit different. Anything on the back, a maker's name or anything like that? Could relate to a French university or maybe to one of the Franco-British expositions that were held before the First World War.

thanks for the info peter, theres nothing on the back of the badge, only the remains where the pin and holder would have been ,no other marks unfortunately!!!
im chuffed with the ring, its not sparkly but hey its a ring.!!! made my day that!
hey badger look out, hitting the beach tomorrow!!!
thanks Nomad, i think if there are any hammereds in my field they are going to be very deep going by how far down i dug for the 1700's coin....but will keep trying!!
